Browser-Based Precision Loudness Metering

The Mixify LUFS Calculator processes your audio locally inside your web browser using HTML5 Web Audio API and custom DSP math. Your audio files are never uploaded to any remote server for loudness analysis, ensuring complete security and zero data transfer delays.

Core Measurements Explained

  • Integrated Loudness (LUFS): Measures continuous perceived volume across the entire song using ITU-R BS.1770-4 K-weighting curves and dual-gating algorithms (-70 LUFS absolute and -10 LU relative thresholds).
  • Maximum True Peak (dBTP): Utilizes 4x polyphase oversampling to reveal inter-sample peaks that standard sample-peak meters miss, protecting against clipping distortion during MP3 and AAC encoding.
  • Loudness Range (LRA): Evaluates dynamic variation between quiet verses and energetic drops, recommending optimal compression levels for streaming distribution.
  • Streaming Target Alignment: Instant compliance checks against commercial hot releases (-8.5 LUFS), Spotify (-14 LUFS), YouTube (-14 LUFS) and Apple Music (-16 LUFS).

Platform Loudness Standards: Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Tidal, Amazon and TikTok

LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale) measures average perceived audio loudness. While streaming services use reference targets, loudness normalization is frequently disabled on web players, embeds, TV apps and in user settings:

  • Spotify: -14.0 LUFS reference target (Optional / toggleable in app settings; disabled on web player).
  • Apple Music: -16.0 LUFS reference target ("Sound Check" is non-destructive and toggleable in device settings).
  • YouTube / YouTube Music: -14.0 LUFS reference target (Reduces volume on loud tracks; normalization is disabled on many web embeds and TV setups).
  • Tidal & Amazon Music: -14.0 LUFS reference target (User-toggleable in app preferences).
  • Deezer: -15.0 LUFS reference target (User-toggleable in settings).
  • SoundCloud: No loudness normalization (Transcodes files to MP3/AAC; requires -1.0 dBTP ceiling).
  • TikTok / Instagram Reels: -9.0 to -7.0 LUFS recommended for mobile speaker punch and clarity.

Why Commercial Masters Target -8.5 to -6.5 LUFS: On most major streaming platforms, web players, line-out systems and DJ setups, loudness normalization is either turned OFF by default or can be disabled by listeners. When normalization is disabled, tracks mastered strictly to -14 LUFS sound quiet and weak next to commercial releases. Mastering your audio to -8.5 to -6.5 LUFS ensures your music sounds punchy, loud and competitive everywhere!

The True Peak Rule (-1.0 dBTP): Always keep True Peak at or below -1.0 dBTP. This prevents inter-sample peaks from clipping when streaming platforms encode your audio into AAC, Ogg Vorbis or MP3 formats.
